Cornerstone’s 30 Weeks of Experiencing Life Groups
WEEK 10: Eternity
Cornerstone LifeGroup
Week of November 27, 2016
“Eternity”
Open in prayer. Begin your discussion by reading the Key Verse a few times and then try and get the group to recite it from memory. Do the same with the Key Idea.
Key Verse: John 14: 1-2 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?”
Key Question: What is going to happen in the future?
Key Idea: We believe there is a heaven and a hell and that Jesus will return to judge all people and to establish his eternal kingdom.
ICE BREAKER: Ask the following questions out loud and discuss.
What is your favorite room in your house? Why?
If you could have a home anywhere on this planet, where would you like to live? Why?
Would you rather live in a mansion, a penthouse, a condominium, or a cabin in the woods?
STUDY: Have someone read the following verses out loud
Read: John 14:1-4
Ask: Why were the disciple’s hearts troubled? What comfort does Jesus offer them?
Read: John 14:5
Ask: Why didn’t Thomas know where Jesus was going? What do you think Thomas thought Jesus was talking about? What do you think Jesus was talking about?
Read: John 14:6-7
Ask: How would you put Jesus’ statement in your own words? What is the force of the claims Jesus makes here? How many ways can one come to God? How would the disciples take the claim that Jesus says that He and the Father are one and the same?
APPLICATION:
Ask: If Jesus is the only way, do you feel like you are on a four-lane interstate, a bumpy mountain road, or on a dead-end street? Why?
Ask: In light of John 14:6, how would you answer someone who says that there are many paths to God?
Ask: How does one gain eternal life? Have you gained it?
Close in prayer and pray for your group throughout the week!
