Cornerstone’s 30 Weeks of Experiencing Life Groups
WEEK 30: Humility
Cornerstone LifeGroup
Week of June 25, 2017
“Virtue 10: Humility”
Open in prayer. Begin your discussion by reading the Key Verse(s) a few times and then try and get the group to recite it from memory. Do the same with the Key Idea.
Key Verse: “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count
others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Philippians 2: 3-4
Key Question: What does it mean to value others before myself?
Key Idea: I choose to esteem others above myself.
ICE BREAKER: Ask the following questions and be prepared to answer first!
Who in your family hogs the bathroom the most or tracks in the most mud?
Who cleans it up?
Do you have a favorite Scripture, song, or slogan that helps keep your spirits up?
STUDY: Have someone read the following verses out loud.
Read: Philippians 2:1-4
Ask: What do you think was going on in the church at Philippi?
From our Key Verse, what are the four motives for living in unity?
Read: Philippians 2:5-8
Ask: What kind of attitude do followers of Jesus need to have?
How does Jesus exemplify humility? How can we model this in our own lives?
Can you think of any Gospel stories that illustrate Jesus’ humility?
What sort of connection do humbleness and obedience have?
Read: Philippians 2:9-11
Ask: Who does Jesus give the glory to (also read 1 Corinthians 15:23-28)?
Is there anyone who will not acknowledge Jesus Christ is Lord?
APPLICATION: What difference does this make in the way I live?
Ask: How does humility (using your strength for the good of others) differ from being a doormat?
Ask: What sort of connection do humility and agape love have?
Ask: How would things change if verses 3-8 marked your family life? Church life? Work life? What are you going to do to bring about those changes?
Close in prayer and pray for your group and family throughout the week!
