Who we Are
Cornerstone is a Christian church that exists for God's glory. That's the bottom line. Whether at worship, work or play--we strive to do all things to the glory of God (1 Cor 10:31; 1 Tim 1:17).
To that end we engage in corporate worship, prayer, and the proclamation of God's word. We submit to baptism and participate in the Lord's Supper (typically on the first Sunday of every month). We actively pursue discipleship, and take the Great Commission seriously (Matt 28:18-20). We love one another, bear one another's burdens, and exercise the gifts God has given us so that the church is built-up.
At the end of the day, however, we're still a family of 'recovering sinners' (cf. Rom 8:1-4). None of us is perfect, though we earnestly desire to overcome sin and be more like Christ (2 Cor 3:18). None of us has all the answers, but we know the One who does (Jn 17:3).
Our purpose would be summed up in our mission statement: "It is our desire to see people know, grow, and go...in Christ." That is, we want people to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, then in their faith, then go into the world and spread the Good News.
In the New Testament, the church is described as the bride of Christ (Isa 54:5-8; 2 Cor 11:2; Eph 5:25-27; Rev 19:6-9). And so, being amazingly clever, we came up with the acronym 'WIFE' to express our core values:
WORSHIP - Worship, both personal and corporate, is our response to God's word and His works. The heart of Christian worship is the power and presence of Christ among his people. Through worship, we give of our time, talents, and treasures so that God may be glorified and His kingdom advanced.
INSTRUCTION - Preaching and teaching were of chief importance to Christ and his Apostles. They are likewise vital at Cornerstone. The love of God cannot exist where the knowledge of God is absent. We do not worship an 'UNKNOWN GOD' (cf. Acts 17:23). On the contrary, through the study of Scripture, we come to know God more clearly and love Him more dearly.
FELLOWSHIP - Christians are united to God in Christ. From this union flows an intimate relationship among believers that is impossible in any other setting on earth. "Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love; The fellowship of kindred minds is like to that above!"
EVANGELISM - The gospel is the very power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. Yet how can they believe unless they hear? And how can they hear unless someone is sent? Thus, we are obliged to take the gospel into the world, that those in darkness may see the light of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
All of the ministries at Cornerstone are measured against these values. If it is not found to support one or more of them, we don't do it!
