Cornerstone’s 30 Weeks of Experiencing Life Groups
WEEK 15: Total Surrender
Cornerstone LifeGroup
Week of February 5, 2017
“Total Surrender”
Open in prayer. Begin your discussion by reading the Key Verse a few times and then try and get the group to recite it from memory. Do the same with the Key Idea.
Key Verse: Romans 12:1 “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”
Key Question: How do I cultivate a life of surrendered/sacrificial service?
Key Idea: I dedicate my life to God’s purposes.
ICE BREAKER: Ask the following questions out loud and discuss.
As a teenager, did peer pressure affect the way you dressed? Where you went? How you acted? Describe how it did or didn’t.
If we were able to talk to your best friends in high school, how would they have described you?
STUDY: Have someone read the following verses out loud.
Read: Romans 12:1-2
Ask: What comes to mind when you think about the meaning of “living sacrifice?”
What does this add to your understanding of worship? How can we know God’s will for our lives? How does transformation take place?
Read: Romans 12:3-5
Ask: How are we suppose think ourselves? What metaphor does Paul use to describe the church and how is it relevant for our culture? What does it mean that each belongs to the others?
Read: Romans 12: 6-8
Ask: Given the tension that existed between Jews and Gentiles, why would Paul write about gifts and their interdependence? Do you have a spiritual gift and do you know what it is? How do you discover what spiritual gift or gifts you might have?
APPLICATION: What difference does this make in the way I live?
Ask: How does the world squeeze you into its mold? How do you resist?
Ask: How can you present your body as a living sacrifice in everyday life? How does this relate to using your gift?
Ask: What does it mean to totally surrender? Have you done so? Why or why not?
Close in prayer and pray for your group and family throughout the week!
