Life Groups Ministry

Acts 2:46 says of the disciples, “Day by day they continued meeting together in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house.”

When the Spirit came upon the people, transformation happened.  The disciples became one in Christ.  After this event they continued to meet together in the Jerusalem temple -- and they also met together in smaller groups – in homes.

At Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church, we believe in and encourage our gathering together as the Church for the proclamation of the Word, for corporate worship and prayer, and for celebrating baptisms and the Lord’s Supper together in our Sunday meetings.  We want everybody in our body to make their participation a priority in their lives.

We also encourage involvement in a Life Group for every member.  Life Groups are a great context for encouraging deeper relationships and growth in our Christian lives as well as for:

• Building real friendships which builds church wide fellowship
• Building real opportunities to show compassion which builds fellowship
• Learning biblical Truth and its application to our lives
• Knowing real accountability for living a godly lifestyle
• Caring for one another
• Serving others in simple and larger contexts
• Stepping out in Evangelism – even if it is just inviting someone to our group.
• Developing new church leaders

 A disciple is a devoted follower of Christ who:

• finds his/her identity in Christ and
• expresses that identity through
  • loving God,
  • loving others, and one who
  • obeys the commands of Christ as they
  • nurture the disciplines of Christian living in their own lives
  • teach the disciplines of Christian living to others.

Our Life Groups are a place to encourage our growth in Christian discipleship.  We are called to be disciples and to make disciples.

As we meet, we encourage each other through Scripture, praying together, and challenging one another toward growth in Christ‐likeness.  Only a small part of this is done through the format of ‘teaching’.

From the Deacon, Life Groups are the single, most important element for personal growth and maturity in Christ and for corporate growth in building a loving, caring, teaching and 'disciple training' environment in the church. At the heart of our vision for the Life Group ministry at Cornerstone is the desire to see believers who are growing deeper in their love for Christ and their obedience to him (discipleship) through the process of growing closer in love and friendship with each other. It is in this context of relationship and community that the early church grew and served Christ, as He built his church. It is our goal for Cornerstone that everybody who attends our Worship services also joins a Life Group. It's that Good! It's that important...
