Cornerstone’s 30 Weeks of Experiencing Life Groups
WEEK 18: Offering My Time
Cornerstone LifeGroup
Week of February 26, 2017
“Offering My Time”
Open in prayer. Begin your discussion by reading the Key Verse a few times and then try and get the group to recite it from memory. Do the same with the Key Idea.
Key Verse: Colossians 3:17 (NIV)
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
Key Question: How do I best use my time to serve God and others.
Key Idea: I offer my time to fulfill God’s purposes.
ICE BREAKER: Ask the following questions out loud and discuss.
What is the earliest childhood memory you can recall? What is the best childhood memory you have? What made it so good?
What was your high point of last week? Why?
Would you rather have more time at the end of your life or more money now? Why?
STUDY: Have someone read the following verses out loud.
Read: Ephesians 5:1-7
Ask: What is the model we are to follow to living this life (5:1)? What is the difference between “foolish talk and course joking” and a good “belly laugh?” Can an immoral, impure or greedy person get into heaven?
Read: Ephesians 5:8-14
Ask: How are Christians to live (5:8)? What is the difference between the “fruitless deeds of darkness” and good, clean fun? What is the spiritual fruit of the “light?”
Read: Ephesians 5:15-21
Ask: What contrast does Paul draw between the old and new life? What is the difference between living a wise or a foolish life? What does it mean to practically give thanks for everything? Who is to submit to whom? What is “submission” anyway?
APPLICATION: What difference does this make in the way I live?
Ask: What are the positive and/or negative motivations which prompt you to live a Christian life? How does my schedule reflect how God wants me to use my time?
Where do I waste time and what adjustments do I need to make to change that?
Ask: Where do I allow room for temptation and sin in my day? Is there an activity God is calling me to stop or delay? Is there an activity I believe God is asking me to add to my schedule? Have I honestly sought to ask God what He wants me to add or take away?
Ask: Where can I make room for using my spiritual gift in the body?
Close in prayer and pray for your group and family throughout the week!
