Cornerstone’s 30 Weeks of Experiencing Life Groups
WEEK 22: Joy
Cornerstone LifeGroup
Week of April 2, 2017
“Virtue 2: Joy”
Open in prayer. Begin your discussion by reading the Key Verse a few times and then try and get the group to recite it from memory. Do the same with the Key Idea.
Key Verse: John 15:11 “…I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”
Key Question: What gives us true happiness and contentment in life?
Key Idea: Despite (or even in the midst of) my circumstances, I feel inner contentment and understand my purpose in life.
ICE BREAKER: Ask one or all of the following questions out loud and discuss.
When were the happiest days of your life? Were they free from hardship? What made them so good?
What family member is the most joyful? Why do you suppose that is?
STUDY: Have someone read the following verses out loud.
Read: Philippians 4:2-3
Ask: What attitudes did these women have that harmed the church? How can others in the church help?
Read: Philippians 4:4-7
Ask: Can we rejoice always, do we rejoice always…why or why not?
How can Jesus’ followers be free of anxiety?
What would someone marked by vss 4-6 look like?
Why does God’s peace transcend all understanding?
Read: Philippians 4:8-9
Ask: What does Paul tell God’s people to fill their minds with? How do we do that?
What things from Paul’s life should we be practicing?
APPLICATION: What difference does this make in the way I live?
Ask: On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest stress or anxiety level imaginable) what is your anxiety level right now?
Ask: What in this passage could help you deal with your anxiety in a positive way?
How would you answer the key question?
Ask: In what specific way can our group be praying for you this week?
Close in prayer and pray for your group and family throughout the week!
