Cornerstone’s 30 Weeks of Experiencing Life Groups
WEEK 29: Gentleness
Cornerstone LifeGroup
Week of June 18, 2017
“Virtue 9: Gentleness”
Open in prayer. Begin your discussion by reading the Key Verse(s) a few times and then try and get the group to recite it from memory. Do the same with the Key Idea.
Key Verse: Philippians 4:5 “Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.”
Key Question: How do I demonstrate thoughtfulness & consideration toward others?
Key Idea: I am thoughtful, considerate, and calm in my dealings with others.
ICE BREAKER: Ask the following questions and be prepared to answer first!
Which room in your house is the most relaxing? Why?
Which room in your house requires the most work to keep clean?
What do you spend more time doing—cleaning up or relaxing?
STUDY: Have someone read the following verses out loud.
Read: Matthew 11:25-26
Ask: Why is the gospel hidden from the “wise and learned?”
What does He mean by “little children?”
Why do they understand revelation about God more the than older people?
Read: Matthew 11: 27
Ask: What’s the relationship Jesus has with the Father?
How can a person come to know the Father?
Read: Matthew 11: 28-30
Ask: What does Jesus mean when He says, “Come to me?”
What does Jesus mean by taking up His “yoke?”
What does He mean by the “rest” He promises those who take up the yoke?
Since a yoke unites two animals in work, what does this imply about discipleship?
In what ways do we see Jesus as being “gentle and lowly in heart?”
APPLICATION: What difference does this make in the way I live?
Ask: How can we show the gentleness of Jesus to those around us? Is it ever OK to be angry and harsh with others? How do we let others see gentleness in our lives?
Ask: Is it thoughtful and considerate to tell others about Jesus? Why is it important to be calm in dealing with those who disagree with us? How can your displaying gentleness open the door to introducing people to Jesus and the rest that only He can offer?
Close in prayer and pray for your group and family throughout the week!
