Cornerstone’s 30 Weeks of Experiencing Life Groups
WEEK 19: Giving My Resources
Cornerstone LifeGroup
Week of March 5, 2017
“Giving My Resources”
Open in prayer. Begin your discussion by reading the Key Verse a few times and then try and get the group to recite it from memory. Do the same with the Key Idea.
Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 8:7 (NIV)
“But just as you excel in everything--in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us--see that you also excel in this grace of giving.”
Key Question: How do I best use my resources to serve God and others?
Key Idea: I give my resources to fulfill God’s purposes.
ICE BREAKER: Ask the following questions out loud and discuss.
What is your favorite type of music: Christian, Country, Rock, Jazz, Classical, other?
Can you think of any songs that speak about money? What is that song’s view of money?
Why would Paul say that giving is a grace? (Re: Key Verse)
STUDY: Have someone read the following verses out loud.
Read: 1 Timothy 6:3-5
Ask: What would the “sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ” entail? Why would false teachers see that goodliness is a means to financial gain?
Do you believe that true doctrine will have an impact on everyday living? Why?
Read: 1 Timothy 6:6-8
Ask: What is the “great gain” in “godliness with contentment”?
What does it mean to be content? (Synonyms: satisfied, pleased, fulfilled, cheerful, glad)
How would an eternal perspective help us avoid the allure of greed?
How does one gain this perspective?
Read: 1 Timothy 6:9-10
Ask: Is Paul condemning material things? What is the danger of loving money?
Is money inherently “evil?” What does Paul mean by the “love of money?”
Is it possible to love both God and “stuff”…Why or why not? (Re: Matthew 6:21)
APPLICATION: What difference does this make in the way I live?
Ask: How can you tell if you love God or love money the most? How is the “love of money” tugging on your heart right now? What are you going to do about it?
Ask: Are you intentionally giving a percentage of your income to fuel the purposes of God and His kingdom? Do you feel this topic is nobody’s business?
Ask: Is there a need that our group can be giving our resources to fulfill God’s purposes?
Close in prayer and pray for your group and family throughout the week!
