Cornerstone’s 30 Weeks of Experiencing Life Groups
WEEK 17: Spiritual Gifts
Cornerstone LifeGroup
Week of February 19, 2017
“Spiritual Gifts”
Open in prayer. Begin your discussion by reading the Key Verse a few times and then try and get the group to recite it from memory. Do the same with the Key Idea.
Key Verse: Romans 12:3-5
3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. 4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
Key Question: What gifts and abilities has God given me to serve others?
Key Idea: I know my spiritual gifts and use them to fulfill God’s purposes.
ICE BREAKER: Ask the following questions out loud and discuss.
What was the best gift you ever received or gave? What was the occasion?
How many different jobs have you had since finishing High School?
If I want to test your patience, what could I do to see how short of fuse you have?
STUDY: Have someone read the following verses out loud.
Read: 1 Corinthians 12:1-7
Ask: What do you think was happening in Corinth that prompted Paul to write this?
Why are spiritual gifts given (re: vs 7)? Does every Christian have a spiritual gift?
Are spiritual gifts different from spiritual fruit (re: Galatians 5:22)?
Read: 1 Corinthians 12:27-31
Ask: Is there any reason Paul ordered these gifts as “first,” “second,” etc.?
From the rhetorical questions raised here, what other problems do you think might be going on in the church at Corinth?
Read: 1 Corinthians 13:1-7
Ask: Since the Corinthians’ were concerned about spiritual gifts and power, what is Paul’s point in vss 1-3?
In vss 4-7, what are the seven characteristics of what love is and the eight it is not?
APPLICATION: What difference does this make in the way I live?
Ask: Do you have a spiritual gift? Do you know what it is? How do you discover it?
Ask: What is Biblical love? Why is it so important in the church?
Ask: Why is love always tied to spiritual gifts? Are you using your gift; why or why not?
