Cornerstone’s 30 Weeks of Experiencing Life Groups
WEEK 13: Bible Study
Cornerstone LifeGroup
Week of January 22, 2017
“Bible Study”
Open in prayer. Begin your discussion by reading the Key Verse a few times and then try and get the group to recite it from memory. Do the same with the Key Idea.
Key Verse: Hebrews 4:12 (NIV) “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
Key Question: Why and how do I study God’s Word?
Key Idea: I study the Bible to know God and his truth and to find direction for my daily life.
ICE BREAKER: Ask the following questions out loud and discuss.
What is the longest you have ever gone without food?
What are you tempted by that is sinful, expensive, or fattening?
Do you have a favorite translation of the Bible? If so, what is it and why do you like it better than other versions?
STUDY: Have someone read the following verses out loud.
Read: Matthew 4:1-1-4
Ask: What is the nature of the temptation? Why might it potentially appeal to Jesus? What price might there be if Jesus gave in? How did Jesus respond?
Read: Mathew 4: 5-7
Ask: What is the nature of the temptation? Why might it potentially appeal to Jesus? What price might there be if Jesus gave in? How did Jesus respond?
Read: Mathew 4: 8-11
Ask: What is the nature of the temptation? Why might it potentially appeal to Jesus? What price might there be if Jesus gave in? How did Jesus respond?
APPLICATION: What difference does this make in the way I live?
Ask: What human need is at the heart of each temptation? How are these needs evident in your life? How does Satan use these to temp you?
Ask: What is the greatest temptation you have right now? How can others help you?
Ask: How important is it to know what God’s Word says? What tangible thing can you be doing right now to know God’s Word better? What is keeping you from knowing God’s Word?
Close in prayer and pray for your group and family throughout the week!
